MAZIDO stands for Management of Arid Zones Initiatives and Development Option

MAZIDO is a local Not For Profit (NGO) organization regisetered under NGOs Board of Kenya with registration number OP.218/051/95128/484 

The vision of MAZIDO is to have a prosperous community that uses its natural resources sustainably.

The Mission of MAZIDO is to empower the community to utilize natural resources productively through advocacy, education and promotion of climate smart technologies

Community Empowerment

MAZIDO empowers communities through capacity-building initiatives and training. It also promotes community-led decision-making and participation in project planning and implementation.

MAZIDO focuses on various natural resources, including water, land, wildlife, vegetation, and livestock. Efforts are made to enhance their sustainable utilization and conservation.

MAZIDO integrates climate-resilient strategies and promotes adaptive practices to help communities cope with changing weather patterns and increased aridity

Projects

  1. Constructed 6 Sand/check dams in Ngolia Ward, Voi Sub County, Taita Taveta County
  2. Introduced giant bamboo in Wongonyi and Mwambirwa, Ngolia and Ronge Wards, Taita Taveta County
  3. Introduced Fish Farming (Aquaculture) in Ngolia and Ronge Locations, Ngolia/Ronge Wards, Taita Taveta County
  4. Planted 120,000 trees in Mwambirwa Forest
  5. 427 farmers practicing fodder and pasture conservation after undergoing training
  6. Increased uptake of existing credit facilities by the youth following intensive youth entrepreneurship dialogues where 845 youths in 3 sub counties were reached.
  7. Supported public participation during the public review of the Draft Wildlife Regulations and submitted a County Memorandum at the National Validation Workshop.
  8. Supported and strengthened the Nyumba Kumi Initiative in 15 Wards of Taita Taveta County.
  9. Mobilized 25 self-help groups with a membership of 465 to participate in the pilot phase of the TAWAE campaign. Using the YETU project financing model, the community raised 1.2 Million within 3 months.
  10. Supported Capacity strengthening of TTWCA
  11. Supported Stakeholder participation during the formulation of the Taita Taveta County Ranching and Grazing Management Policy.
  12. Developed a Five-Year Strategic Plan for TTWCA which has already attracted a grant of KES 138 Million from USAID.
  13. Supporting Kasigau and Taita Ranches through Organization Capacity Assessments and implementation of one-year Institutional Improvement Plans.
  14. Development of Business plan for Taita Carbon Investment Limited.
