From Hooves to Hope, MAZIDO and Brooke East Africa Transform Donkey Welfare in Taita Taveta

MAZIDO International has been selected to lead a donkey-welfare initiative in Taita Taveta County with support from Brooke East Africa. "Donkeys are essential to many families, helping with transport, farming, daily chores, and generating income," yet these animals frequently experience inadequate care, limited veterinary access, and predator threats.

Project activities include educating donkey owners on proper care, nutrition, and veterinary services; training in humane handling practices; constructing protective shelters against predators; and advocating for improved animal welfare legislation at the county level. The initiative employs the Five Domains Framework — a holistic welfare model addressing nutrition, environment, health, behavior, and mental state.
