Harnessing Storm Water for Small Scale Irrigation and Livestock Use (Taita Taveta)

MAZIDO set out to demonstrate how to collect storm water for use during the dry season, with objectives to promote rainwater harvesting in Ghazi Sub Location of Ngolia Location, construct a sand dam along the Mwalenjo river, and provide water for small-scale irrigation to 100 households along the river.

MAZIDO constructed one sand dam along the seasonal Mwalenjo River, retaining enough rainwater to last three months after the rains — used by people, cattle, and wildlife including elephants during the dry season.
