The Challenge

Water access was a critical priority for the Buguta Sub-Location. However, the project faced a major crisis during its inception when the initial plan to source water from the Makwasinyi spring was rejected by the local community. This standoff left essential materials unused and placed the project at risk of cancellation due to strict donor timelines.

The Solution

Mazido International acted swiftly to save the initiative by negotiating a ‘Change of Plan’ with the Embassy of Japan. We redesigned the infrastructure to connect to the revived TAVEVO Maungu-Buguta line instead. Our team coordinated new topographical surveys, secured necessary extensions, and successfully mobilized the community to complete the trenching despite early delays.

The Impact

By pivoting the strategy and engaging the community in the construction process, we successfully delivered vital water infrastructure to the region:

17km Pipeline Network

We constructed a 17km long water pipeline distribution network, successfully extending clean water access to six villages in the Buguta area.

Water Storage & Access

To ensure reliability, we rehabilitated the Shashaghonyi water tank and improved access points by constructing a new water kiosk at Buguta Market and repairing two existing kiosks.

Livestock Support

Recognizing the importance of agriculture to local livelihoods, the project included the construction of 2 cattle troughs, ensuring that livestock also have access to reliable water.
