Strategic Plan Development for Taita Wildlife Conservancy
to 2022
The Challenge
Taita Wildlife Conservancy (TWC) is a vital privately-owned entity in Taita Taveta involved in both ranching and conservation. However, the dual shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic—which ravaged the tourism sector—and the accelerating impacts of climate change created an urgent need for a robust roadmap. To ensure its future, TWC required a clear, forward-looking strategy to navigate recovery and achieve long-term operational sustainability.
The Solution
In partnership with Mazido International, TWC developed a comprehensive Five-Year Strategic Plan (2022-2026). This guiding document was anchored on an in-depth analysis of the current conservation landscape. We established key milestones and targets designed to guide the organization’s future activities in habitat restoration, research, and community development, ensuring they align with TWC’s core vision and mission.
The Impact
The strategic plan has positioned the conservancy at the forefront of wildlife conservation in East Africa, with clear frameworks for the following key areas:
Sustainability Roadmap
We delivered a 5-year blueprint that charts the path for post-Covid recovery and financial sustainability, allowing TWC to balance its ranching and conservation business effectively.
Protection of Endangered Species
The strategy prioritizes the protection of rare biodiversity. TWC is home to critical species including the Grevy’s zebra, pangolin, and the rare black panther, all of which now benefit from targeted conservation targets.
Climate Action & Carbon Sequestration
A major focus of the plan is environmental protection through carbon absorption. By restoring habitats, the conservancy acts as a carbon sink, directly contributing to the fight against global climate change.
