Voi, Kenya – February 6, 2024 MAZIDO has been awarded as the local implementor of STAWI Mashinani by Millenium Water Alliance (MWA). This is a 5 year program geared towards strengthening the governance of water resources through empowerment of Water Resource User Associations (WRUAs) and Water Management Committees (WMCs). This project also aims at making water for productive use available (irrigation). These will be achieved through collaboration with different stakeholders including the county government of Taita Taveta.
The program has four key areas of intervention:
- Enhance Water Governance: This includes strengthening local Water Resource User Associations and Water Management Committees, ensuring water availability, and resolving water-related conflicts.
- Improve Water Service Delivery: This involves making rural water services more efficient and reliable, along with improving water supply systems.
- Promote Productive Water Use: This focuses on helping farmers and pastoralists access water for irrigation and livestock use, water and improving market access for women and youth in agriculture.
- Improve Collaboration and Learning: This fosters cooperation between county governments, local organizations, and communities to plan and manage water resources together.

What the project intends to achieve by 2028
- Atleast 10,000 people get improved basic access to water for drinking and multiple use. This will be achieved through rehabiliation of community water projects in partnership with the county government of Taita Taveta.
- 2 WRUAs (Water Resource User Associations) get operationalized Sub Catchment Management Plan (SCAMP)
- 5 Women mentored in water service delivery and enterpreneurship.
- Atleast 10% increased in revenue from the community-managed water points.
